Chemistry professor receives NIH grant to research new UTI treatments alongside undergrads: Salve Regina University

Salve Regina University chemistry professor Dr. Susan Meschwitz is researching new treatments for urinary tract infections, working alongside undergraduate students. The three-year project, “Peptide cues in the environment regulate bacterial dormancy,” is supported through an award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is part of a collaborative study that will be conducted with University of Rhode Island’s (URI) Dr. Jodi Camberg and Dr. David Rowley.

Two students wearing safety glasses and laboratory coats work with a scientific instrument in a research laboratory while an instructor observes. One student operates the equipment as a laptop sits nearby, demonstrating hands-on chemistry research and mentorship in a STEM learning environment.
